In 2009, Massachusetts lawmakers approved a new law according the the Food Allergy Awareness Act. This law makes it so that all Massachusetts restaurants are required to have a "certified food protection manager" on staff who knows the ingredients in each menu item and who also understands how to prevent cross-contamination. Restaurants also must include allergen notes in menus and have allergy awareness posters on site for employees to reference. You can see the Food Allergy Awareness Act here.
